PRESS RELEASE 16 july 2015

Detry pursues its growth strategy with the acquisition of Polca,a company based in Flanders, specialised in pâtés.

Aubel, 16 July 2015 –Detry is consolidating its position on the European market with the acquisition of Polca, the pâté specialist. This move is very much in keeping with the Detry Group’s strategy of focusing its activities on the production, marketing and distribution of top-quality charcuterie and food products.

Fully family-owned company Detry has been producing and selling an impressive range of prepared meat products (hams, pâtés, black and white puddings, sausages, salamis…), made in the traditional way and with food safety and the environment in mind, since 1963. In 2014, it sold no less than 12,530 ton of charcuterie, 29% of which was exported to mainly France, England, Spain, the Netherlands and Germany. Determined to remain a leader on the charcuterie market, the company Detry has, of old, always put a special emphasis on quality and R&D. Throughout its quest for progress, Detry develops itself in a sustainable manner both in Belgium and across the European market, making sure that its customers receive a service that is second to none. Thanks to its skilled tradesmen and women, it is able to produce regional products that are good for consumers’ health.

Polca, which saw the light of day in 1969, is a family-run business based in Izegem (West Flanders). It specialises in the production and packaging of pâtés. Polca produces and sells 4,200 ton of pâtés a year, 81% of which is exported to more than 10 countries. It employs 49 people and generated a turnover of € 18.4 million in 2014.

Detry and Polca know the European pâté market inside out and complement one another to perfection. Together, their position on the European market will be an enviable one. As a result of this acquisition, Detry will be able to expand its product range with a particularly extensive, high growth potential assortment that distinguishes itself by the quality of its ingredients, its taste and complementarity in terms of packaging. From now on, Detry will have a complete range of pâtés that meets the expectations of its customers across its target markets.

The Polca brand “Pâté Grand-Mère (Grandma’s pâté)”, renowned across Europe, will be preserved. The Detry family will be taking over the entire workforce and intends to ensure that the company Polca grows from strength to strength, for one, through fresh investment. Current management will remain in charge of the day-to-day management of the company which will henceforth be a subsidiary of Detry.

This particular acquisition brings the Detry production sites up to 4: Aubel (Detry s.a.) for all its cooked meat products (hams, pâtés, sausages, salamis, black and white puddings…); Battice (Detry s.a.) for all jellied products (brawns, headcheeses, vinaigrettes, aspics, …); Bastogne (Bel’ardenne s.a.) for all the uncooked charcuterie (jambon d’Ardenne (smoked ham), saucisson d’Ardenne (salami), noix d’Ardenne (cured ham), sausages, bacon, …) and Izegem (Polca n.v.) for the pâtés.

Detry, expertise and quality at its best!
